About Me

I'm a big fan of a lot of things. I've been very lucky to have done a lot of things in my life so far, too. Such things include several years studying and researching astrophysics, a stint as a professional artist, as well as lots of other small joys.

I grew up in Northern Rivers NSW, Australia, which has cemented in me a fundamental love of nature and our place within it. My career as an artist was largely inspired by the scenery around the Tweed Valley, and my interest in astrophysics stems from this affinity to nature and the physical processes by which our worlds are shaped.

My education is in science, mathematics, and computer science, and I have been awarded Bachelors and Honours degrees from the University of Queensland, currently working on a Master of Research in astrophysics at Macquarie University. Broadly I have a keen interest and focus on applications of mathematical and programming methods to explain astrophysical phenomena, and my research work so far has focused on the intersection of stellar astrophysics simulations and real data.

One thing I am particularly passionate about, adjacent to research, is communicating science effectively. I'd encourage you to check out my talks and annotated papers pages to see some interesting ways in which I do this. I'm also very lucky to be a writer for Astrobites where I write accessible summaries on the latest (jargon-filled) astrophysics research.
